1. Holes in your clothes or paper damage:  Silverfish like to feed on starch products such as book bindings, photographs and fabrics.  So, if you notice holes in your clothes, or your stored photographs have been chewed, this can be an indicator of a silverfish infestation. 
   
2. You’ve spotted a small grey creature: They are usually about 1.25 cm long, and have a scaly appearance. Their colour can range from a pale silver to a dark silver/blue. They also have two long antennae. Unfortunately, if you’ve seen one silverfish, there are likely to be many more in hiding.  
   
3. Droppings: Silverfish have small spherical-shaped droppings. Their waste is often found near items they’ve been feeding on.  

How Can You Prevent a Silverfish Infestation? 

If you want to hang onto paperwork, photos, books, or clothes, it’s best to store them in sealed containers to reduce silverfish activity in the home. 

Another way is to ensure you vacuum your home regularly and thoroughly.  

This way you can get rid of food crumbs and other items that attract silverfish into your property.
